Middlesboro ARH Hospital opened in June 1956 as one of the original nine Miners Memorial Hospital Association facilities. The hospital, which is licensed for 96 beds, primarily serves the residents of Bell County, Ky., Claiborne County, Tenn., and Lee County, Va. Services offered at the hospital’s six community clinics include orthopedics, women’s health, pediatrics, oncology, general surgery and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations. Middlesboro ARH also serves the community through its retail pharmacy. Additionally, the hospital offers skilled nursing “swing beds,” which provide an opportunity for patients to transition from observation to acute care to extended-stay post-acute care without changing rooms. Skilled nursing through swing bed care typically lasts 7 to 21 days, as the goal is to prepare patients for a return home. Middlesboro ARH Hospital is a Level IV Trauma Center, a DNV designated Acute Stroke Ready hospital and has received accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
