Located in Hinton, W.Va., Summers County ARH Hospital is a 25-bed acute care hospital primarily serving residents of Summers County. The facility, established in 1969 through the fundraising efforts of the local Jaycees, joined the Appalachian Regional Healthcare system in 1994. Summers County ARH operates two community clinics as well as a retail pharmacy and offers services including physical, speech and occupational therapy, cardiology, cardiopulmonary care, and behavioral health. Additionally, the facility offers skilled nursing “swing beds,” which provide an opportunity for patients to transition from observation to acute care to extended-stay post-acute care without changing rooms. Skilled nursing through swing bed care typically lasts 7 to 21 days, as the goal is to prepare patients for a return home. Summers County ARH, a Level IV Trauma Center, has received stroke certification and its Summers County ARH Family Care Clinic has received the Lilly Pad Award for two consecutive years.
